How Sudden Weather Changes Affect Allergies

Posted by admin on 10 Jan 2009 | Tagged as: Allergy Tips

Statistics say that at least thirty-nine million persons in USA suffer from nasal allergies leading to missed work and school. I don’t remember where I’ve read this, but I tend to think they are correct. Some may say that in winter the allergy episodes decrease in both frequency and severity, because there are no pollens to act as allergen triggers for so many sufferers. What they forget is that in winter we tend to spend more time indoors, thus getting more exposed to the dust we all have in our homes. Dust is prone to trigger allergic reactions because of the dust mites, microorganisms that feed themselves with human residues like dead skin cells. Dry air is also a cause of many respiratory troubles. Asthma and allergy sufferers should be aware that they need to dust frequently, air their rooms and use air humidifiers to keep a higher level of humidity inside their residence.

Besides, there’s another danger for allergy sufferers during winter: the sudden weather changes. If the temperature records big variations from one day to the other, the human body will have troubles in adapting, thus becoming more exposed to all kinds of health incidents. Cases of people who died because of getting out of a warm room to the freezing temperatures outside are mentioned every winter in regions where the climate is unstable and cold.

As a conclusion, there’s no safe season for allergic people. Allergies need to be watched and kept under control all year round.
