Allergy treatment methods are not curing the disease itself; they only alleviate symptoms, thus improving the quality of allergic patients’ life. It is very important that allergic persons try to remove all allergens sources from their environment, and that they avoid exposing themselves to such substances they are known being allergic to.
Antihistamines
An antihistamine is a drug which reduces or eliminates effects mediated by histamine, a substance in the body, which is released during allergic reactions, through action at the histamine receptor.
Immunotherapy
There is a popular belief that if you are allergic to something, increasing exposure to that substance will determine your body to get used to it, thus curing or alleviating the allergic reaction. This is wrong, and nobody should attempt that, because the more exposure you get to the allergen, the more sensitive your body becomes, and the more accentuated symptoms you’ll have.
Yet, there’s no smoke without a fire: the above statement can be true in certain circumstances, but it is not about exposing yourself madly to the allergen. It is about an immunotherapy procedure, called hyposensitization, which comprises vaccination of the patient against the incurred allergen. The vaccine doses are gradually increased, thus leading to reducing the severity of the hypersensitivity or even to its elimination.
Other methods of allergy treatment are: chemotherapy and alternative therapies
