Allergy Symptoms

There are two kinds of allergic symptoms: local and systemic.

Local allergy symptoms:

  • Allergic rhinitis: nasal mucosa swelling, running nose
  • Allergic conjunctivitis: red and itchy eyes, tears in excess, sensation of sand in the eyes
  • Skin: atopic dermatitis, rash, urticaria (hives), eczema, skin irritation
  • Airways: difficulty to breathe (dyspnoea), wheezing (whistling sounds when breathing), or even asthma attacks

Systemic allergy symptoms:

  • Edema
  • Hypotension
  • Cutaneous reactions
  • Coma

These symptoms vary with the severity of the allergic reaction. The complex of systemic allergy symptoms is known as anaphylaxis and it can lead even to death if not treated immediately.
